Badge Award Ribbons

Step 1 – Take a CD and use this is a template to cut out the fabric that will then be forming the main part of your award. Make sure that you cut the fabric of circle around ¾ inch wider than the actual CD as you will be then turning this inwards to create a seam. Use a heavy duty thread and sew the seam by hand remembering to tie the ends off once you have finished sewing.
Step 2 – Once the circle of fabric is ready you are now in a position to print the ribbon. You can use any program you want for producing the text on the award. However it would probably be best to use something like word as you have a wide selection of fonts and text styles to choose from. Also make sure that you type the wording backwards so it is then printed off in this way and will then ensure that when transferred on to the award it is the right way round. Once you have the design of the text right then of course you will need to print it on to a sheet of transfer paper.
Make sure that when printing out it comes out backwards so a mirror image of what is on the screen appears on the paper. You will probably need to look in your printer instruction manual for an explanation of how to do this. If you cannot find it in there then a quick search online may help to provide you with the way this can be achieved.
Step 3 – After the printing has finished allow the ink time to dry before removing the paper from the printer and then cutting it out. Again as you cut out the text make sure that you leave a big enough gap around it so that you can easily attach the transfer to the ribbon. Then with a warm iron you can now transfer the text on to the material. Making sure that as you transfer the text over you press the iron down well.
Step 4 – Once you feel that the transfer has happened successfully remove the iron and leave the ribbon on to which the transfer has been placed to cool down completely. Only then must you attempt to remove the paper make sure that you peel away from the top of the ribbon.
Step 5 – Now it is a simple case of attaching ribbons to the back of the award. This can be done in a number of ways. Either you can glue them on and place a piece of card over the back to create a professional finish. The other way is to use a pin through the ribbons to then attach it directly to the award front.
